While it was initially announced for a bunch of platforms including PS Vita (and some other non-tiny things), Ubisoft’s Tetris Ultimate wasn’t mentioned for 3DS. However, a Nintendo Europe release list (via GN) shows the game coming out in “autumn.”
I mean, yeah, there are already at least three Tetris games playable on 3DS that I can think of offhand, so why care about this one? I got intrigued when this Polygon interview with Alexey Pajitnov and Henk Rogers mentioned a mode inspired by the insane Tetris: The Grand Master 3.
"At one point in that game, the player’s blocks disappear and they have to remember what they placed where. So Tetris Ultimate features a power-up in its Battle Mode that makes the opponent’s pieces turn invisible “for a split second” to confuse them.”
I’d be super happy with just a port of that, but knowing that they’re even looking to that game for inspiration piques my interest. Image via 1JPS.
